Genesis

The European Bean to Bar Chocolate Association was created on 12 February 2025 to structure and promote the Bean to Bar movement at European scale.

It was born from a shared observation by five national associations already active on their territory: France, United Kingdom and Ireland, Italy, Spain and Portugal. These five founding associations recognised the need to join forces to defend a common vision of craft chocolate, harmonise quality standards, and give the Bean to Bar movement an institutional voice worthy of the world's leading chocolate market.

Official definition of Bean To Bar

“Bean to Bar, also known as craft chocolate, is not just a recipe or a process. It is a commitment based on values: transparency, fair trade, respect for producers and the environment, sustainability, and above all quality.

This quality is the fruit of the work of each player in the chain, from the growing of the cocoa to the final bar. The Bean to Bar chocolate-maker is committed to preserving the personality of each cocoa and honouring the work of the producers by guaranteeing an exceptional product”.
